Papergirl Newcastle – Artist Submission Required

In the style of American paper-boys, Papergirl distributes rolled art pieces by bicycle to passers-by.

Created by Aisha Ronniger in 2006 in Berlin, we finally bring the rolls to the streets of Newcastle

Papergirl is a no bones, lets do and share, give away art on bikes operation. The plan is for yous lot to send in work to a designated address… and we give it out on a fixed date. This of course will be paired up with exhibitions of the work sent in, parties, cyclists breaskfasts and all sorts of silliness.

There are no guidelines as to format, subject matter or quantity, so originals, prints, photos, copies etc. come together. Each roll contains several different works, meaning that each one will be a right mixed bag.

We plan to make this fun, laid back and quite the party… but we need your help. We need cyclists, artists, ideas people and general hands on help. If you want to get involved in any way, just drop us an email on papergirlnewcastle@live.co.uk

Address for posting work is: Papergirl c/o XSITE architecture
Foundry Lane Studios, Foundry Lane, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE6 1LH

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: 10th JUNE

Exhibition venue: Settle Down Cafe, Thornton Street, Newcastle

The Dead Sea Mob – “A Shot Across The Bows”

Big things are happening for a new band of illustrating sailors named The Dead Sea Mob. Each of the artists in their own right would single handedly be able to raise the Titantic with their artwork, but together, they could launch the four funnelled ocean liner into orbit.

Two back to back shows are reaching the North and South of the UK. Kicking off with a group show for Diesel Jeans label 55DSL, called ‘A Shot Across The Bows’. The show opens Thursday, March 24th at the London Flagship store on Newburgh Street, Studio55 and will run until April 21st.

They then sail North to The Pure Gallery in Whitley Bay on Thursday 28th April for the “Dead Reckoning” show which runs for 3 weeks.

Ok, here’s the blurb…

The Dead Sea Mob are a creative brotherhood, brought together by little more than a good strong wind and bonded by a shared affinity for the dark and arcane. 4 artists, each known for charging through the undercurrents and uncharted waters of the low brow art scene, together a force to be reckoned with.

Meet the Crew:

Godmachine

I design under the name Godmachine. I have drawn some nice images for some big bands, small bands, some huge skateboarders and small skate companies. I’ve done work for some small clothing labels and some huge ones. I live in Wales. I love cats and coffee and wish I was an otter.

Drew Millward

Drew has been drawing pictures in Leeds since about 2004. He likes to draw ‘the old fashioned way’, using pencils, pens and a love of the craft of illustration. His subject matter can vary dramatically, he hopes that the attention to detail and the love of drawing is apparent throughout his work. Drew is master of the revival of the gig poster.

Tom J. Newell

Tom J Newell is a comic book maker, gig poster artist and illustrator of stuff who is also an occasional musician and turntable tinkerer. Tom adopted the use of his middle initial after finding that the domain name “tomnewell.com” had been claimed by a guy who had once caught a lobster.

Tom Hovey aka TwistedLoaf

TwistedLoaf is a bastard illustrator. He is well good at drawing, which helps. His style has been described as, if Ronald McDonald had been a well good artist, but was also sexually abused whilst in clown school. Most importantly he’s Welsh which means he’s fucking well good, much more Welsh than Godmachine even though he sounds more Welsh.
